Capt. Richard Davenport is struck by lightning on Castle Island.

(July) The commander of the fort, Davenport is killed while lying on his cot, which was located only a few feet away from a powder magazine. Davenport is succeeded as commandant by Capt. Roger Clap, who notably resigns in 1686.
